No one said it had to be real and if everyone thought she was in love, they'd stop hounding her to find a man. Serena knew she could do this and no one would ever be the wiser - best case scenario. Then Tyler Cooper walked into her life and best case scenario became iffy. He fit her idea of Mr. Wrong in every way. From a failing business, to limited social skills, Tyler would never have made her list of datable men. He was a cowboy for heaven's sake, who probably wouldn't know cashmere if it bit him in the butt. But she needed his help and he needed hers, which made him perfect. Until tonight. Somewhere in the midst of the pretend and the lies, her heart had been drawn to his. His kisses stirred her soul while his friendship gave her the strength to deal with old hurts and past heartaches. Serena knew this had no future. She was bound for Manhattan; Tyler was determined to stay in Texas. Would she risk everything for a chance at real love? Or walk away from this flame with her heart in ashes?...

I really enjoyed this story, especially many of the laugh-out-loud moments. The fun and funny aspects were tempered with enough heartwarming scenes to add depth, and the romance was great. The developing relationship between Serena and Tyler was very likable and believable.I stayed up till 4am reading it because I wanted to see how it turn out between the two. I will be keeping my eyes out for the next book.

I really enjoyed this book but the thing that kept me from giving it more stars was the weird inconsistencies with the storyline's time. The characters would talk like something happened yesterday but the narration talked like it happened weeks ago. It was odd and kind of ruined the flow. Also I would have like side characters to have been developed more, like Justin her son, etc.

Hot contemporary romance with some interesting twists and even a bit of devilishly good humor, if you do not pick up Serena and Tyler's story you are missing out on some good scenes to make you tear up as well as have some good laughs!

The two heroines meet and begin dating under false pretense's, one to spite his sister into leaving him alone, the other for a juicy column in the local newspaper. Doesn't sound like a great premise for a book does it? Well, it actually gets a whole meatier. Serena is basically coerced into finding a date for her newspaper column, but she figures she can bluff her way through it and make the entire thing up, just like writing a romance. What she didn't expect was actually meeting Tyler. He was set up by his sister and the last thing he wanted to do was to be out looking for a date, but he stumbled upon Serena, and discovered her knack for spinning a story somewhat useful for getting his sister off his back. The two of them help each other through a lot of their sticky situations, but then life begins to set in and they both start to feel things neither one initially agreed upon.Tyler comes with a whole slew of problems. As Serena's best friend put it so bluntly, "this guys the Titanic and no matter how great you convince yourself he is, the ship's still going down." I love that Tyler is a guy that isn't super romanticized. He's real, with real problems, and like Nolea says, he's a great guy. You can't help but like the guy, no matter how far his ship keeps sinking. Serena is also a woman to relate to, a woman that didn't get along with her mother, just trying to get by each day while raising her son, just hoping her past didn't screw up so bad that it cathches up with her future. It really makes you stop and ask yourself, would you stay with the sinking ship, like Kate Winslet and stay for love and go down with Leonardo, or jump off with the leaving lifeboats? Does love really conquer all? This story was a feel good, laugh out loud, dig deep with emotions kind of story. It had it all.

Pretty cute, light and quick romance about a newspaper journalist for a small town newspaper who is writing a story about online dating and who conspires with one of her dates to set up a fake romance to help with the story but not get involved. he's agreeable because his sister has signed him up because he's too busy to date because of his restaurant. Of course nothing is easy despite their attraction for each other because Tyler's ex moves to town, Serena's estranged mother shows up, and Serena is offered her dream job in NY. The characters are nice but under-developed. The estrangement between mother and daughter has festered for years but seems to miraculously heal itself with just a few words, and love develops without a lot of set-up. It could have been really good if it had been longer, to have more time to really grow more realistically. Secondary characters could have been developed more fully also. I loved Serena's son Justin, but we see very little of him. Coworkers Will and Naoli could have been humorous foils, but they were also only briefly involved, and seemed more of a hindrance to the story and not the providing the fun they could have. There were some funny moments wi Tyler's family, but that happened very early in the book, and the rest didn't live up to that potential. Still an enjoyable fluff read..

This was a fantastic story!! I was in tears laughing so hard when Serena met Tyler's family and had to be "disgusting"! Then when her pillow started to "quake"! This was the first book that I read that literally had me laughing my butt off with tears! There were some tense moments in the story as well, and true to life that many can relate to. I will not provide any spoilers for this book. The story was well written and believable. The characters were down to earth which the reader can relate to. I seriously hope there will be others stories written by this author.

Liar's Fire was such a cute book! It was fun and sexy. While some elements of the book were quite predictable, I loved the unpredictable twists it took. This book had so many laugh out loud funny parts. I was just dying from the hilarity of so many situations. The characters were just great! I loved Serena. I would definitely read more from Dee Burks in the future.

So much better than the cover hints. Serena is a hoot and Tyler is sweet. Liked that they were in their thirties. Fun story.

The scene where Serena first meets Tyler's family had me laughing out loud. Unfortunately, it was toward the beginning and I just didn't feel the rest of the story was up to the same standard.

Pretty good story with likable characters and some really funny moments. The plot dragged in a few places, but overall it was a good book.
