Absolutely one of the most enlightening books I've read all year. Going-in not completely ignorant of transgender culture and issues, some of this was a tad elementary, but that's perfect for the person whom this book is ideally intended. As far as gaining a cursory understanding of sex and gender, and gaining a lot more detail into the spectrum of transgender diversity, this book is solid, and full of references to additional resources. A great read for someone yearning for the right vocabulary and a very accessible layout of everything mentioned above, and an even better introduction for someone completely fresh to what transgender means who has just had someone close to them come out.

A very informative book. I learned a lot. I read it slowly, and really thought about it as I was reading. I probably have more questions now than before I read it about our society. Would there be less gender dysphoria if our society and our language didn't put so much emphasis on gender and gender roles?
