This book was amazing, Nicky Charles does not disappoint! It was dark and thrilling and keeps you guessing until the end. I never want this series to end, it's going to feel like the loss of a great friend when it inevitably does :(.

Okay, let me start by saying this book, in fact the whole series, was free. The author only asks that the reader consider making a donation to their local animal shelter or food bank, which is pretty awesome when you think about it. And now for the book...It's a little hard to figure out where to read which book in the series. Having previously read 'Bonded,' which is a prequel for the series and ended with a big question mark hanging over the side character of Damien, I decided to read this one next, even though technically I think it's supposed to come after the second book, 'The Keeping.' This turned out to be a wise choice, I think. There wasn't a bunch of spoilery-stuff regarding book one and two, mostly this one stands alone. While it does continue Damien's story, it's not just a book about him but a story about Eve and Rafe as well. Though Damien does figure prominently into the tale.I enjoyed this book very much! It seemed to be more on the action side than the previous one, 'Bonded.' The characters were well-formed and engaging. There was also a lot of mystery and misdirection going on here that kept me guessing until the end. I'm greatly enjoying this series and hope that there will be more in future books about Damien, a rather complex individual.

I started this series a couple of years ago during one summer vacation. The main allure being that they're light and predictable. But after I got back from my vacation I just didn't feel like continuing so the rest have been sitting on my Kindle ever since. I had a bit of a hard time remembering what had happened before in the series but I quickly got back into the feel of the Lycan world. The characters are fairly engaging and after a few chapters I started to develop some emotional attachment. Not much but enough to get me through the slower parts of the book. My main complaint about BDotR is the way the author tried to create ambivalence regarding Damian. It was always clear that he is one of the (view spoiler)[good guys in his own way (hide spoiler)]. It's clear that the author is just trying to mindf#$k the readers but it always ends the same way. So it's rather unnecessary. Otherwise it was a good book and a nice way to kill a few hours. First off, let me say how selfless I think it is that Nicky Charles writes these books and just asks that you make a donation equal or greater to the price of a regular book to either an animal rescue place or a food bank. Just like I did last time, I donated to an organization that goes in to natural disaster locations after they occur and rescues the pets that are left behind. What a great cause!Damien Masterson (from Bonded) is in this book again. He has found out that his mate Beth and their unborn child were not killed by an accidental gas explosion, but by Fae haters. The ex-Enforcer becomes a Rogue, and the Rogue Retrieval unit will kill him in the guise of "bringing him back in" if they can find him.Dr. Rafe McCrae is a psychiatrist. He runs a clinic to help Rogues become reintegrated into Lycan society. He is 1/4 Fae, and so can use his empathic skills to help Rogues become less dangerous. But he has taken leave to get his head screwed back on after he is unexpectedly attacked by a rogue in his clinic. He is fixing some cabins up in the country to be rented out.Eve is part Fae, and is just coming into her empathic powers. She had left the city, where she was getting bombarded by the feelings of everyone around her, and goes to live in a sleepy area of the country in Canada. She is renting a cabin from Rafe. Eve and Rafe are attracted to each other, and because they are both Fae they have an elevated reaction to each other, where a positive feedback loop occurs when they become intimate. The first time this happens, Eve is unaware what is going on, and Rafe is filled with shame by this. He struggles to keep Eve at a distance so that they don't build a bridge between them that will leave them codependent and hooked on the positive feedback loop, which will only get stronger and more overwhelming the more they are together.Damien is attracted to Eve because she seems so similar to his dead mate. Rafe is afraid that Damien will fixate on Eve and decompensate, killing her. Eve sees Damien watching her in his wolf form. When Rafe finds out that she's being stalked by a Rogue wolf, he tells Eve she must stay inside her cabin and not leave, afraid that she will be attacked by Damien. Rafe also wants to help Damien, so he hires Damien as a handyman to work on the cabins. When Eve continues to see a wolf around her, Rafe has Eve move in with him for her safety. There is a nice little love triangle in this story, and some twists and turns in the mystery of who is trying to kill whom and who is double crossing whom. I don't want to go into the story too much, because half the fun is figuring out what is going on, as facts are slowly revealed. This book seems darker than her previous works, which is fine by me. This is another great story by Nicky Charles, and I'm so glad she has written it!

Betrayed: Days of the Rogue by Nicky CharlesSequel to Bonded Damien Masterson lost Beth, his blood-bonded mate and unborn baby in a house explosion. It destroyed him. When he learned it was not an accident, he exploded. The ex-Enforcer is now considered a dangerous rogue, also number one on the most wanted list. And a man set on revenge is dangerous.Eve is just learning that she has Fae abilities. She is empathic and can feel what others feel. She has to get out of the city, away from feeling so many people at once. Eve finds solace in a small cabin she rents. There she enjoys nature and painting. Her landlord isn’t so bad too look at either, if he weren’t so stone faced and rude.Dr. Rafe McRae is on a sabbatical. He had problems with his last rogue patient and feels like a failure. His new renter is one to keep away from, and it’s not easy. When he realizes she is an empath like himself, he definitely has to stay away. It is rumored that it’s bad for two empaths to connect. Easier said then done when she needs him to protect her.Nicky Charles has done it again. You never quite know what twists and turns will come next in the book. She lets you in Damien’s mind just enough to keep you guessing if he’s good or bad. You can almost feel the struggle between Rafe and Eve, as magnetism keeps pulling the two together while Rafe fights to keep them apart. Just when you think everything is coming to a head, it veers off in a new direction. Great story. **Sexual content and languagehttp://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...#

This one broke my heart. Damien, oh Damien. His blood mate and unborn child have been killed. There is a mystery here. Just who are the good guys and who are the bad? Sometimes the line is very thin, that's for sure.We get to see more of Reno and Brandi as we meet Rafe, a 1/4 Fae, half were. We also meet Eve. She's an artist and half Fae. In Ms. Charles canon, the Fae are empaths. And someone wants them wiped off the face of the earth.Throw in a serial killer and this was a serious page turner! This one is .99, whereas the rest of the series is free. Ms. Charles could get a lot more for these. Truly. She asks that you make a donation to an animal shelter or food bank instead.Yes, you should read these...now!

On the bright side, the writing and editing are much improved from the first book in the series. But I still had issues with the pacing of the storyline. It started to drag just before halfway. When you ask yourself after a chapter (yes, a chapter, not just a scene), what the point was to it, it's just not good reading. Did it advance the storyline? Did it add to the characterization/relationship between the main characters? When the answer is no, it just makes the reading drag. I wasn't crazy about the plot (Damien goes rogue, Rafe gets it on with Eve, no characterization of the Fae other than they're empaths only). There was a lot going on but at the same time, not much going on. It sounds like a contradiction but I liken it to drive time traffic when you slow to a crawl for no discernible reason before picking up the pace again.Sorry, but I couldn't get over that the only ability of Fae is to sense emotion. Eve starts her "awakening" as Fae, but she never completes it in the story. We never find out any more about what her full abilities are supposed to be. What should have been an integral part of the characterization was turned into a barely developed plot device.Because this is much more readable to me than the earlier books, I'll go with a solid 3. I felt there were too many plot holes and skimming over to rate it higher.

This book twice forced me to reassess my own opinions. I generally am discouraged when a series that has previously been based on a single paranormal species, such as werewolves, starts throwing in other species, such as fae. I've found it to usually indicate that the series is loosing focus, which is rarely a good thing. However, despite my dismal expectations it worked here. Charles managed to introduce a broader paranormal panorama without letting the series loose shape. Kudos. Secondly, I was seriously disappointed when I started reading the book and found that Damian wasn't the main character here. I really like his character and after the teaser at the end of The Keeping I was desperate to know what happens to him. However, having read this book I think it was the right choice not to jump right into his story. It would have felt like too soon, as if we too hadn't mourned Beth enough. As always the writing was good, the book was well edited, and the sexual tension high. I look forward to following the rest of the Law of the Lycan series.

I give this book a five star and would give it a six if I could.I thought this would entirely be about Damien and given the fact that he had just lost his blood bonded mate, I couldn't see how he could find love right away. The way it was done, incorporating Eve and Rafe was brilliant. We got to see what went down with Damien and experience a very steamy, very hot, very captivating love connection as a side story. Loved Rafe and Eve. I also loved the introduction of the coupling of a were and a non-were which was not seen before.I enjoyed the timeline of this book weaving through the other stories and reading little tidbits that was happening in the other books I had previously read.I feel this book was the perfect way to bridge the gap between the tragedy and a new future for Damien. As with all the other books in this series, captivating and gripping till the very last page.

Ok first off i did only give this book 3 stars compared to the others getting 4 because it didnt really have me rushing to turn the page, i stopped reading it half way through and after a few months i finally finished it yesterday :-)I dont know if it was because Fae was added into it as it didnt keep my attention or if it was will they wont they wiv Rafe and Eve !?!? Which dragged through the whole book with them blowing hot and cold..... Ok enough moaning lol.It was still a great book just it dragged, loved Damien in it even though i felt sorry for him throughout :-( i do hope he gets happy again, was happy to see it wasnt what i thought it was with Damien too ;-)Still these are all good books :-) glad Rafe and Eve saw sence in the end lol.

Although, it is not bad this book was my least favorite in the series. It dragged at the start for me. Yes, it did pick up but it took a little bit. This book has not only wolves but also Fae. This book is all about the sexy Damien and what happens to him after his wife dies. I have to say I was so sad for him. I enjoyed all of the books in the series and even better they were all Free~

My usual style of reviewing won't work for this book due to spoilers. There's just too much that could giveaway the whole story. Nicky Charles writing evokes many emotions both felt and seen into her story. This book is no exception to that thought. I loved this diving back into the history of the Lycans! No more thoughts except this Happy Reading!

I started reading this story and was pulled into the story because it had an interesting premise. I like when you have a paranormal species who is doing something just a bit different then you may be used to them doing. I happen to love shifters of any type and these are some great Lycans, written in such a way that you can’t help but be interested in what they are involved in. The dialogue is good for the characters and fits the personalities of each as they have been described. There was no drag or slow moments to bog down the story so it just kept up the momentum and carried you along. This made you think and that is something that every good book should do, there should be a reason for you to become engaged with the characters, and that was the case here. I wanted to know what the mystery was and who was involved because I had pegged it wrong a couple of times. Fae are being murdered and it appears that these murders are being committed by rogue wolves, though no one can figure out why. The rogues in question always end up dead or horribly injured and unable to speak about what happened. There are multiple factions who would like to see not only the Fae be wiped out but any and all non-shifters. Lycan Link was established to not only protect Lycans but also to aid the Fae, Human-Lycan hybrids, and any other combinations that exist from harm. They are not doing such a great job lately and seem to have traitors in their midst.Eve is an artist who had been told as child that she was part Fae, though she did not really believe it. As she got older she completely dismissed the idea until she started being assaulted by the emotions of all the people around her. Because of her awakening gifts she decides to go into the country where she can try to get control of her ability without the distraction of others. But her landlord is a good looking man who seems to dislike her, but she cannot read him and in a way it draws her to him. Rafe is a Lycan/Fae and a psychologist who has come to this small town and bought fishing cabins to restore in order to get over a recent trauma. He did not plan on finding a woman or starting a relationship, but it seems he has no choice in it. Then there is Damien, an ex-enforcer for Lycan Link who has gone rogue. Why has he shown up in the area and what is his agenda? Is he there to kill Eve or is it merely a coincidence? Good story, great characters, enough steam to satisfy! If you have a thing for conspiracies, betrayal, revenge, and serious manipulation then this may be for you.

This is a brilliant addition to the Law of the Lycan series. It has taken a while for this book to come out but well worth the wait. This is Eve and Rafe's story initially, both part fae and one is also half lycan. Eve is in the awakening stage of her fae life and Rage will do anything to protect her, including making sure that she stays away from ex enforcer and wanted rogue Damien.Damien is one of the characters that is mentioned through out the series and this book does help bring to light just how much of a tortured soul he is and how tragically losing his mate has brought him to the brink of despair. This is a much darker book than readers may expect from Ms. Charles but with her usual attention to detail and vibrant characters that she creates, it is not difficult for the reader to get totally absorbed and start to realise that there are many secrets and twisted fates within the secret lycan world. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes next and what else gets unraveled.

I skimmed through a fair bit of this at the start as I was in that aggravating really-want-to-read-something-but-don't-have-time-to-read-anything state. Near the end I ended up reading it more thoroughly, however, although I still skimmed over some paragraphs. I didn't read it in enough depth to really know what I felt about Eve and Rafe, although some things - like in most fiction, truthfully - worried me as they were things that I'd hope people wouldn't accept in real life, but in fiction they occur everywhere. I liked the twist (finding out the rest of this one person's story was really why I decided to read this, and while it doesn't seem concluded yet it has enough closure that it could be the end of that particular story). I also loved Eve getting out of a particular situation herself and how she did it.

Betrayed Days of the Rogue was an interesting read. I was skeptical about the book at first. I have read all of Nicky Charles’s books and have loved them all, but when you introduce the Fae into a werewolf scenario, I thought that maybe the author may have jumped the shark. To my surprise it worked. I think that this book is a sequel to the prequel and not a continuation of the initial series. I don’t want to give too much away. I enjoyed the book. Eve’s character is a smart and strong woman. She doesn’t let Rafe or Damien push her around. I liked the fact that there was a lot of suspense. Just when you thought that the danger was over, there is another antagonist to deal with. I hope that there is another book coming sometime soon. They never disappoint.

I like this series, but this one wasn't one of the better ones. I felt so confused due to Damien. At first I thought he was the foil for a love triangle. I didn't really like that as it seemed like he was still mourning Beth and he moved on a little too fast. I was also confused on his role, was he a rogue or was he doing something more. Even considering the second portion there was more to that.As for the romance between Rafe and Eve, it was just meh... for me. Rafe was an ass for much of the book, I don't understand why Eve would want him. Eve seemed so wishy washy, I found it hard to like her. Even with the past characters from Lycan Link I had a hard time getting interested in this story. I did like the ending, loved the ultimatum that Damien gave at the end.

So I absolutely love Nicky Charles and the other books in the Lycan series. I had a little trouble getting through this one. It was nearly a thousand pages long, and the first 650 pages seemed to DRAG on forever. I didn't have near the connection with Rafe and Eve that I've always had with her other main characters. I was also really pulling for Damien, and I'm certain that even though this wasn't my favorite read, I will continue reading this series because I really do love the other characters that still need resolution.

I had previously read all of Ms, Charles books and did a happy dance when I saw she had released a new book....As with her other books, I was not disappointed....I admit that I did have to go back and refresh my memory from "Bonded" so I could ease back into the story.Damien and his struggles with the death of his wife and the struggles of which side he should be own....and Rafe....of my! What a lucky empath Eve is...Looking forward to the next adventure.....I mean, a sexy werewolf riding off on a motorcycle to who knows where.....
