This book follows a shy mouse of his journey to find a friend. He searches through the forest but seems to find something wrong with each animal he lays his eyes on. With help from a grumpy bird, the mouse finally finds a friend! Can you guess who it is?I really liked this book. It was really cute and actually showed some insight into what goes through someones head who is shy but really does want a friend. I also really love that it rhymes; rhyming books always seem to make me happy (especially when they aren't cheesy rhymes). I would love to have this book in a daycare classroom but as a board book rather than a paperback but I don't know if it comes like that. It would also be a good one to read to a preschool or kindergarten class and discuss it.

The story of a shy mouse who wants to find a friend and the crow that is too grumpy and shy to offer to be a friend is told with beautiful photography of animals that seem to be posing for the page. Readers will enjoy imagining that the conversation and events really did happen in a nearby park or backyard.

I love the photographs. The illustrations are beautiful. I just wish they had a better story to go with them. It's pretty formulaic and not very interesting. However, I do plan on taking this in to my classroom, because I think the kids will enjoy looking at the animal pictures.

The team behind another photo essay, Swim, Duck, Swim!, returns with this simple story about a shy animal in search of a friend. In rhyming text, the author describes how Mouse considers several animals as possible friends, but each one has some characteristic that is off putting. A grumpy bird tries to steer him in the right direction with some hints. When the hints don't help much, the bird reveals the friend's identity. While adults might not be surprised to find out who that friend is, young readers will be delighted with the story's conclusion as they come to realize that friends come in many different shapes and sizes and even someone who seems not particularly friendly might turn out to be the best friend of all. The text is accompanied by visually appealing photographs of animals and nature. All of the animals are stunningly beautiful.

Beautiful photos of animals are featured in this story about learning to get to know others not just by appearances or impressions but by who they are at heart. A rhyming story that tells about shy little mouse who wants to find a friend but can't seem to find someone just like him. Grumpy bird finally gives mouse a hint but mouse still isn't sure who he could mean. Will grumpy bird finally help little mouse find a friend? Or was little mouse's new friend there the whole time.
